Laura Lehman decided to make the big move from Nashville to Washington, D.C. about a year and a half ago. She’s a graduate student and a busy fashion blogger at Laura Lehman Wears, but she made a little time in her schedule to recommend some of her favorite places in the city.
Since we chatted right before my trip out to D.C., the timing worked out perfectly for me and I was able to swing by a couple of the places. I loved having the inside scoop from a local, especially since that local is a fashion blogger with an eye for style. Read on for Laura’s local insights into the best spots to check out on your next trip to D.C.!
The Instagram-Worthy Spots
Laura says she takes most of the photos for her blog in the Dupont area, which is close to where she lives. She joked that she was being lazy and just hanging around her neighborhood, but if you’ve seen any pictures from her site, you’ll know that she’s never exactly shooting in front of ugly backgrounds.
For a few more ‘grammable locations, Laura recommends Georgetown, which is where she shot for this recent blog post. For a more urban feel (rare in D.C., which doesn’t have typical city high-rises), head to City Center. And, of course, there’s always the Kennedy center, which is just beautiful.
Where to Eat
Laura had a hard time picking her absolute favorite restaurants in D.C., with so many to choose from. Her favorite in Georgetown is Kafe Leopold, a european-feeling cafe with killer pastries.
Sites to See
Laura encourages visitors who come to see her to go to the memorials and monuments around D.C., especially the Lincoln memorial. She also loves the Renwick Gallery, which is a branch of the Smithsonian American Art Museum. It’s a beautiful building housing American craft and decorative arts.
And, when it’s time for a break and a killer view, Laura is all about heading up to POV, a bar on top of the W hotel, which has great views of the White House and Washington Monument. I took her up on this tip, and I was so happy with the view and the break above the city for a few minutes.
