San Francisco Through Local Eyes with Sarah Tripp of Sassy Red Lipstick

California, On the Go

As I mentioned in my blog post on Friday, Dustin and I spent the weekend in San Francisco, California. Actually, we were in San Jose as well as San Francisco and we’re still in SF and flying out tonight. Since we were only here for a few days, I wanted to consult with a local in order to be sure we were seeing all of the most important sites, getting the most ‘grammable views and eating the best seafood possible.

Enter fashion blogger Sarah Tripp, of Sassy Red Lipstick. She and her husband moved to San Francisco at the end of April (I’m so jealous that they both work from home so they had the flexibility to move like that!). Sarah is the absolute sweetest, so it’s no surprise that she was willing to recommend the best places to check out in SF.

I decided to get the insiders perspective on San Francisco from a local, so I reached out to Sarah Tripp of Sassy Red Lipstick to find the fashion blogger's favorite spots in the city. Click through to read more.

The worthwhile tourist activities…

Sarah said that biking across the Golden Gate bridge is her favorite activity to do with friends and family. She recommends just embracing the tourist mindset, since things like the Golden Gate Bridge, fishermen’s wharf and the mission area are actually a lot of fun, for tourists and locals alike.

Those Insta-worthy views…

Of course, if you’re going to San Francisco, you’re going to be snapping selfies of the Golden Gate bridge from every possible angle. Sarah mixes it up by heading to the Marin Headlands (that shot of her swinging, above, is from Kirby’s Cove in the Marin Headlands) and Twin Peaks to get amazing views.

That said, Sarah said that one of her favorite things about her new city is how photogenic it is, and she takes photos for her blog all over the place, exploring the different vibes each neighborhood has to offer. Just check out the awesome views in her recent outfit post from Billy Goat Hill.

For eating and drinking…

AKA the most important part of any trip, right? Though Sarah doesn’t drink coffee, she knows a lot of people chat about Wrecking Ball. Two of her favorite restaurants are Plow for brunch and Elephant Sushi, for sushi in the cool Russian Hill area.

For another favorite, she says, “we’ve eaten a few times at Dirty Habit. It’s right downtown, its actually in Hotel Zelos and it’s a really trendy spot. It’s on the 5th floor of the hotel so you have great views and a lot of their plates are tapas style so they’re smaller plates that you share.”

Shopping hot spots…

While the big mall is in SoMa, and there are a lot of shops near Union Square, Sarah’s favorite place to shop is Hayes Valley, which is right by Golden Gate Park, and she loves the local store Amour Vert, which is a clothing company committed to sustainably created beautiful clothing (and yes, you can shop online, too!). Sarah also likes exploring in the Union Street area, popping in and out of the cute boutiques.
