Lines suck, but coffee rocks…
A trip to Seattle might mean different things to different people, but to me, it meant wedding dress shopping, amazing views, and, of course, coffee. My morning coffee is an important daily ritual that makes me feel like myself, so I always embrace the opportunity to drink my coffee in a new place.
Usually, a cup or two at home is all I really need, but I do like to work in Starbucks and I’m pretty obsessed with my pumpkin spice latte in the fall. Needless to say, I wanted to look up the original Starbucks location when I was in Seattle recently. When we arrived, there was a bit of a line, but we figured it might be worth it, so we waited in line longer than I’ve ever waited at Starbucks. So… was it worth it?
It’s probably worth it to wait if….
…you like being a tourist.
It’s probably not a surprise, but this is a seriously touristy activity. The main appeal lies in shopping for souvenirs that say “the original Starbucks store,” looking around, and taking pictures. If that doesn’t appeal to you and you’re just going to roll your eyes, it’s probably not worth it for you. If it sounds fun to check it off your list, though, do it!
…you love Starbucks.
After all, this is a very brand-specific experience. It’s not the first coffee shop, after all. It’s the first Starbucks. If you love Starbucks, it’s a super fun experience to geek out a little over the brand.
It’s probably not worth it to wait if…
…you’re dying for coffee.
You’re going to be waiting in line pretty much any time you go, so if you need your coffee right away, check out one of the handful of Starbucks locations within only a few blocks.
…you don’t care about Starbucks, coffee, or checking tourist stuff off your list.
Of course, it completely depends on the person, but I thought it was great fun to do it at least once. If you’ve decided to go, be sure to plan your trip so that you don’t waste half your day standing in line. We went pretty early in the morning (thanks, time difference!) and the line wasn’t too bad. You could also try going later in the day, since the majority of people probably aren’t drinking coffee at night. Just don’t go in the middle of the day, especially on the weekends. When we walked by in the middle of the day on Saturday, the line was crazy!
Would you go? Tell me in the comments if you think it would be worth it!
