Winter Warmup at the Moxy Tempe

Arizona, On the Go

Have you heard about the Moxy hotels? They’re a new line from Marriott, and these hotels are all about fun. I was dying to experience one, so on a recent trip to Phoenix, I went over to Tempe and spent a night at The Moxy Tempe.

The Tempe location was the first Moxy hotel in the US, and they’ve since opened one in New Orleans as well. There are also locations across Europe, and they seem to be opening new ones all the time, so be sure to check out the Marriott website to see if there’s a Moxy in the city you’re headed to next.

Boyfriend and I took this night as an opportunity to chill out (and warm up!) before the crazy busy month of December began. It was a great little getaway.

We checked in at the bar, which is also the front desk, and were warmly greeted by the staff, and served a complimentary check in cocktail. It was a boozy cherry limeade, basically, and it was so delicious that Dustin ordered another one when we came back down later.

Since we were all about chilling out and relaxing on this trip, we got settled in our room and then headed back to the lobby to grab another round and hang out. We ended up sitting outside for a little while, since it was a nice 75 degrees, and were impressed by the Moxy’s ping-pong table and bags (or cornhole) boards, near the pool.

Making friends jealous of the sunny November weather.

It’s seriously all about fun at this hotel, and we loved that vibe. There was even a guitar and record player in our room.

We went out for dinner with my mom in Scottsdale, which is very close, about a 15-minute drive. If you’re considering staying in Scottsdale, this hotel might be a good option, since the Tempe location means it’s more budget-friendly. Of course, the location is ideal if you’re visiting ASU or watching a football game on campus. I’m sure if there had been a home game that weekend the hotel would’ve been packed.

Once we got back, we decided to hang out in the lobby a little bit more. I’ve never stayed in a hotel where I actually wanted to hang out in the lobby before, so that was a treat.

I have to admit, we had a ton of fun on the pinball machines and arcade games, and Dustin even let me pretend that I beat him (nope!).

We actually met at an arcade bar in Chicago, and pinball was one of the games that we played while chatting and getting to know each other, so it brought up special memories for us! It was fun to challenge the loser to buy the next drink, just like we did the first night we met. Both times, he won, but still bought me a drink. #gentleman status, right?

If this looks posed, it’s because my face is scary serious when I’m actually playing pinball.

Dustin used to travel every week for work, and he said he would’ve loved to stay in this kind of hotel for business travel, because it gets so boring just heading back to your hotel room and watching TV every night.

Once we did finally retreat back to our room, we quickly hooked up Dustin’s phone to the TV and chilled out watching Netflix from our own account, right where we’d left off. Sweet!

Moxy Memories

We had a great time at the Moxy and I’d totally recommend this hotel if you’re planning a little weekend warmup of your own. It would be a good location for an ASU trip, or even for spring training if you’re a baseball fan.

Would you want to stay at a hotel with arcade games and a bar in the lobby? Let me know your thoughts in the comments!
