Citrus Cocktails for Summer: Blood Orange Jalapeño Margaritas

At Home, Food and Drink

Summer is the perfect time for a refreshing hit of citrus. You want a lemon squeeze on your fish, a splash of lime in your guacamole, and, of course, you want citrus in your cocktails. On a recent trip to Phoenix, I was absolutely surrounded by beautiful citrus fruit, and it inspired me to mix cocktails for every occasion, all weekend long.

So, this weekend, I am sharing three citrus cocktails perfect for sipping poolside, serving with brunch, and of, course, enjoying alongside a lovely meal. First off: Friday Night Blood Orange Jalapeño Margaritas!

Blood Orange Jalapeño Margaritas

Don’t be fooled by this sweet pink drink—with a hit of jalapeño infused tequila, it will surprise you with a mix of sweet and spicy. It’s the perfect way to kick off your weekend

To infuse Jalapeño Tequila, place about three sliced jalapeños, with seeds, per 750ml of 100% agave tequila in a jar for 24 hours. I recommend starting with about a third of your bottle of tequila and one jalapeño, just to be sure you like the flavor!

For the drink:

Fill a glass with ice, add one shot of jalapeño tequila (if you’re nervous about the spice, you can mix the jalapeño tequila with some un-infused tequila). Juice two blood oranges and add the juice to the drink, with about 1 teaspoon of agave syrup, depending on how much sweetness you like. Top with a squeeze of lime juice and garnish with a blood orange slice.
